The drawing should identify which dimensions are critical, mark datums where needed, and specify acceptable tolerances rather than leaving all features to general assumptions.

Material and thickness information should be stated directly on the drawing or in the accompanying request.

Quote preparation differs between prototype samples, small engineering builds, and recurring production, so state whether you need first-article samples, pilot quantities, or mass production pricing.

If you do not have a finalized drawing, a marked sketch, sample photo, or existing physical part can be used for initial review, but a dimensioned drawing is still needed for formal quotation and manufacturing.

When sending a sample, label key features and note which dimensions or performance characteristics are important, because samples alone do not always show tolerance intent or hidden functional requirements.

Add application notes that affect process planning.

For example, filtration mesh may require controlled opening size and edge quality, electronic components may require clean surfaces and consistent flatness, and mechanical shims may require tight thickness control.

If the part will be used in semiconductor, medical, automotive electronics, acoustic, optical communication, new energy, or precision equipment applications, mention the operating environment or any handling constraints that could influence material choice, inspection focus, or surface protection.

Before submitting, check that the drawing package includes part number or revision level, material, thickness, overall dimensions, feature dimensions, tolerance callouts, surface finish requirements, quantity, and any special inspection points.

Missing or ambiguous information is the most common cause of delayed quoting or incorrect process assumptions.
